Hey, I’m Donovan DeGuardi, a creative marketer with a passion for storytelling, the ocean, and connecting people through engaging content. I was born and raised in Moorpark, California, and graduated from Moorpark High School in 2018. It was there, during two years of computer graphic arts classes, that I first discovered my love for digital design and creative media.

After high school, I took a leap and headed to Washington State University to study Business Marketing. I also earned a certificate in Business Behavioral Research, which helped me better understand how people think, act, and make decisions, key tools in today’s marketing world. I chose WSU to push myself outside of my comfort zone, and it paid off. I graduated in 2022, having built lifelong friendships, unforgettable experiences, and a clear vision for my future: to become a creative, purpose-driven marketer.

Once I moved back home, I managed a restaurant for three years, an experience that taught me a lot about business operations, leadership, and working with people from all walks of life. But my journey took an exciting turn in 2024 when I got scuba certified. Being in the water has always been a big part of my life, whether surfing, fishing, free diving, or spearfishing, but scuba diving opened up a whole new world. I bought a DJI Osmo Action Pro 5 camera and started filming the incredible underwater scenes around Malibu and the Channel Islands.

That’s when Channel Islands Scuba, the dive shop that certified me, brought me on board as their Media Director. I’ve been running their social media, managing content for YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and Mailchimp, and producing videos that help divers learn more about their gear, the dive experience, and the ocean itself. From writing and filming to editing and animation, it’s been the most rewarding role I’ve had so far, and the reason I’m excited to get up every morning.

I also volunteer with organizations like Diveheart and Higher Ground, helping veterans, first responders, and people with disabilities experience scuba diving through adaptive programs.These programs take place at Channel Islands Scuba with a community of divers that volunteer their time and skills. Scuba diving has become more than just a passion, it’s a community, a source of inspiration, and a constant reminder to make myself uncomfortable to grow into something more.

At the end of the day, I’m a creative mind who loves turning ideas into visual stories, whether through video, social media, or brand strategy.
